Bonus Bags Food Distribution
In partnership with the Sts. Peter & Poverty Program at the Sts. Peter and Paul Convent, directed by the Norbertine sisters, our club distributes bags of food and personal items to 20 families identified by the program. This is done every month of the year, except for July, when the convent closes for a month.
Wilmington Educational Awards (WEA)
The objective of the Wilmington Educational Awards event is to acknowledge and to honor educators and students from our community that embody the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self,” in their interactions with students, teachers and staff.
Fiesta Corazón Del Puerto
The Fiesta was first held in 2005 and was organized with considerable support from the Port of Los Angeles. Now held in Wilmington Waterfront Park, the organizing committee is primarily comprised of Wilmington Rotarians. The event provides entertainment, children’s activities, food vendors, local community resource booths, and a movie in the park.
National Night Out
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. We use this event to honor and thank our local law enforcement officers and first responders.
Fleet Week Reception
LA Fleet Week is an annual, multi-day celebration of our nation’s sea personnel held on the LA Waterfront at the Port of Los Angeles over the extended Labor Day Weekend. On the Friday of LA Fleet Week, the Rotary Club of Wilmington, along with the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, hosts a reception on the grounds the Banning Museum in Wilmington to welcome, honor, and celebrate our servicemen. The Fleet Week reception is sponsored by the Port of Los Angeles among other local businesses. This event is free and open to the community.
Thanksgiving In The Harbor
Christmas Feast
The first Christmas Feast was held in 1992. Since then it has been held in various locations and has grown from 300 family members to 800+ guests annually. Currently, the Feast is held at the Wilmington Senior Center on the last Saturday before Christmas. We partner with the Sts. Peter & Paul Poverty Program, the Palos Verdes 4H Club, and various donors to staff and fund the event. We partner with local schools and nonprofit organizations to identify families in need. We provide a holiday meal served family style and toys for all children 12 years of age and under. This event has become a signature event for our club, where nearly all members are present, along with family and friends who have become regular volunteers each year.
